Gunns
Gunns Limited is Australia's largest fully integrated hardwood forest products company. In WA, Gunns is the larget hardwood sawmilling operation employing around 230 people. The company is involved in the production and distribution of Western Australian jarrah.
To ensure the company operates its business in an environmentally friendly manner, Gunns WA has achieved Environmental Certification under International Standard ISO 14001:1006.
Gunns operates four hardwood sawmills in the south-west of Western Australia, producing jarrah and karri sawn hardwoods.
Jarrah (E. marginata) is grown only in the south-west of Western Australia. It is reddish-brown in colour, has unique grain patterns and is renowned for its beauty, warmth and durability. Jarrah is used for a wide range of interior and exterior applications.
Karri (E. diversicolor) is also grown in the south-west of Western Australia. It is typically lighter in colour than jarrah, and is extremely hard. It is also used for a number of diverse applications including flooring, decking, building, heavy construction and railway sleepers.
The company operates three processing centres which kiln-dry more than 80 per cent of the sawn jarrah output, for subsequent processing into seasoned decorative products such as furniture timbers, mouldings, panelling, joinery (millwork), jarrah flooring and decking. Karri flooring is also manufactured.
Gunns operates a distribution yard in the Perth suburb of Welshpool which supplies the Western Australian trade and retail markets.
Gunns in WA has demonstrated its commitment to product and service excellence by achieving the coveted International Standard ISO 9001:2000 Quality Assurance Certification.
